Holy Monastery of St Kyriaki of Loutros
About Holy Monastery of St Kyriaki of Loutros in Veria
At Loutros in the municipality of Alexandria (Imathia) stands the Holy Monastery of St Kyriaki, a women’s monastery founded in 1963. It belongs to the Holy Metropolis of Veria, Naoussa and Kampania and should not be confused with the small Holy Church of Saint Kyriaki chapel inside Veria town.
When Metropolitan Panteleimon arrived in 1994 this was the only women’s house in the Metropolis that still had a resident sisterhood—then mostly elderly. From 2013 sisters from the Annunciation monastery of Aleppo found refuge here during the Syrian war and have since made Loutros their permanent home, renewing liturgical and communal life. The katholikon has been frescoed and the grounds improved for the many pilgrims who come.
Visits are daily by arrangement. Modest dress is expected. Loutros lies on the plain toward Alexandria—plan transport accordingly and allow a calm visit separate from Veria’s urban chapels.
