Holy Monastery of the Transfiguration – Moutsialis

About Holy Monastery of the Transfiguration – Moutsialis in Veria

The Holy Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Saviour at Moutsialis—also dedicated to St Paisios the Athonite—is a women’s monastery of the Holy Metropolis of Veria, Naoussa and Kampania, in the Veria countryside near the historic Skete of Veria.

Originally a men’s house, it was destroyed in 1822 like many Imathian monasteries. The present katholikon dates from 1835; continuous monastic life was interrupted for long periods. A new sisterhood settled in 2011; official reconstitution followed in 2014. The renovated katholikon was consecrated in July 2019 to both the Transfiguration and St Paisios, whose spiritual daughters form the community.

Visits are daily by arrangement. Modest dress is expected. The site suits pilgrims already exploring the Aliakmonas monasteries (Skete of the Forerunner, Kallipetra) who wish a quieter women’s house nearby.
