Museum of the Royal Tombs at Aigai

The Museum of the Royal Tombs at Aigai (Vergina) is the heart of the experience at this UNESCO archaeological site. After the tombs were discovered in 1977, an underground tumulus building was constructed to protect the monuments and house the exhibition of treasures — gold wreaths and larnakes, weapons, vessels and the famous wall paintings.

Today it belongs to the Polycentric Museum of Aigai: the same ticket usually covers the Central Museum Building, the Royal Tombs–Exhibition of Treasures, the Necropolis–Royal Cluster of the Temenids, the ancient theatre, the Palace of Aigai and the Church of Agios Dimitrios at Palatitsia (confirm what is open on the day of your visit).

Summer (1 Apr–31 Oct): Mon & Wed–Sun 08:00–20:00, Tue 12:00–20:00 (in autumn closing may be earlier). Winter (1 Nov–31 Mar): Mon & Wed–Sun 09:00–17:00, closed Tue. Allow time; the atmosphere is dark and atmospheric — ideally combine with the new central museum.
