Archaeological Museum of Veria

The Archaeological Museum of Veria (47 Anoixeos Street) gathers finds from the prefecture of Imathia, mainly of the Hellenistic and Roman periods. In the garden you will see funerary and honorary altars, as well as inscriptions — a useful stop to frame a visit to the city or to Vergina.

Three galleries display burial assemblages (vases, weapons, jewellery) with a model of a chamber tomb, Hellenistic sculpture and figurines, and Roman-period portraits, figurines and jewellery. The most important exhibit is generally considered the inscription of the “Gymnasiarchal” Law of Veria, a regulatory text for the operation of the ancient gymnasium.
